Canadian designer Budd Sugarman established Hazelton House in 1977, collecting a vast array of floral and large-scale designs and restoring many of them to production. Drawn from patterns dating from the 1830s to the 1940s, the collection celebrates heritage fabrics designed in England, reimagined for modern interiors with richness, scale and enduring botanical character.
Hazelton House remains true to the traditional art of hand-block printing, using the original hand-carved block sets to build each design layer by layer. These complex patterns require exceptional skill: multiple blocks are used for each colour, with hundreds of impressions carefully laid by hand across every metre of fabric. The printers must master the precise positioning of each block and the delicate layering of colour, creating a depth, movement and individuality that machine printing cannot replicate.
